Lendlease the leadership machine series. Part Six: LL youth foundation.

Business meeting, working process. Woman manager talking to boss about conclusion of a new contract. Businessman chief sitting at a big table in office room typing on the laptop, brainstorm team

In the previous article we shared the 3-phone call system on knowledge management. Today is a little shift with the Lendlease Youth Foundation. How does this fit into the leadership machine?

Lendlease Youth Foundation

The Youth Foundation was an organisation within an organisation where the younger members could congregate and mix with senior executives. How can you become a senior executive quickly if you don’t have direct and ongoing experience with one? Events and sessions were set to enable the flow of issues, experiences, thinking, approaches between these critical groups.

As a Youth Member:

  • You got direct access to senior executives, sharing what it is like to be a member not to complain but share a view of what, how, when things could be done
  • You lost the intimidating feeling of dealing with senior executives quickly
  • Expanded your network beyond your peers
  • Able to build mentor relationships
  • You had someone to emulate

As an Executive:

  • You got an unsanitised view what was happening in the organisation
  • Heard fresh ideas
  • Efficiently able to mentor the next generation of leaders
  • Able to pulse check the culture
  • Able to seed important ideas through the organisation
  • Very good insights into the promotability of the youth
